He was famous for the Naked Gun and Airplane! movies, but had a huge career beyond that, at age 84 he'd spent more than 60 years in television and movies.
I enjoyed he guest-starring role on the television series Due South quite a bit. He made a terrific Canadian Mountie.

It is truly a sad day when such things come to pass. I think I might take a tumble down some stairs and make a bad pun in his honor.
He started out as a straight actor, starring in the seminal SF film, Forbidden Planet amongst others. But he was a great comedy actor later on and I love his performances in the naked gun trilogy.
