I'm closing in on the end of my first draft of the book. I'm at about 65,000 words of what I'm planning to be an 80,000 to 85,000 word novel.
You know what that means?
That's right. It's time to prematurely start making my list of dream agents and publishers.
I could be spending my time finishing that last 15,000 words or so, but no. No. I think I need to start making the list. THAT would be the best use of my time.
Actually, the first couple of agents I plan on sending it to were ones that were highly complimentary of my first novel when it made the rounds. That's the logical place to start, I think. There's also a couple more that I've had some contact with over the past few years that said they'd like to read my work. Again, that would be a no-brainer, right? So, technically, the list is already started. That was easy!
Maybe if I find the right agent, they won't even make me finish the book, right? Right?
Worth a shot! I'm off to stare longingly at agent profiles!

Congrats on finishing your first draft. While I wouldn't personally go shopping for agents just yet, I wish you all the luck in the world :)
Absolutely, way too early to be agent hunting. It's more of a meditation at this point. I don't have enough time to finish the last several thousand words yet, but I can check a few agent profile pages in just a matter of minutes.
Right now it's just for fun, I'll probably get serious between the second draft and the when my beta readers return it for the next draft.
Thanks for the good wishes!
Congrats on your first draft! Trolling agent listing is like crack cocaine. Don't forget to eat and sleep!
Thanks for visiting my blog, btw!
and I can't type today...
Finding an agent makes me cry. When you set out on this tempestuous journey all I can say is pack extra water and chocolate. Water for the dry mouth you'll get with a positive response and chocolate for the others. Best of Luck!
Please note the spam word I just got was "puttify", no reason I'm telling you this, it just made me giggle
